I finally Understood! ( on a hilarious note)

You know I would always wonder why in the mess or canteen the amount of vegetable is always less๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคจ. Anything that is nutritious and worth giving is provided in a very low quantity whereas other normal stuff like rice (you can have as muccchhhhhh rice you want) is unlimited. Have you ever wondered why they know the exact quantity for particular veggie? How do they know that half a spoon is enough or a one fourth spoon? Even if you are an adult and deserve probably 3 spoonfuls of that veggie? HOW DO THEY KNOW?????๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿคจ๐Ÿคจ
The realisation hit me this morning as I was eating masala dosa๐Ÿคญ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜… (a famously relished dish in south India). I mean I relish it too!!! They provided 2 dosas alright. But the amount of masala or mashed potatoes would probably suffice one fourth the amount of dosas I had taken๐Ÿ˜ฅ๐Ÿ˜ฅ๐Ÿ˜ฅ๐Ÿ’”. No point asking for more. The ones who serve know the exact amount down to the weight in grams for each as they scoop up the veggie from the big vessel and plop it onto our plates. Not a milligram more!!!!!!๐Ÿง
I believe they do it this way. Post kitchen work, they would probably take up 4-5 volunteers for breakfast or before any meal for that matter and give them a decreasing gradient of the veggie and check which one is just a little less than enough to finish the dosas. That is if you just touch the dosa piece you tore of against the veggie....๐Ÿง๐Ÿง just gentlyyyyyyyyy do it, else too much would stick to the dosa. In science you would call this normalization or setting up a standard. I normally do it for my protein or DNA/RNA work and hence I can understand this technique.
Once the portion has been decided, that is what is plopped onto your plate, and now you know why you get so little of the vegetable.๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
Any other ideas why they do so????
